Protection dyke of Bangalee River collapses: Vast area, crop lands flooded in Dhunot Upazila

A vast area of Nimgachhi union under Dhunot upazila of Bogra district has been flooded collapsing village protection dyke of mighty Bangale River from early recently.
Hundreds acres of crop land including T-Aman, vegetable has gone under water, causing serious suffering for the people of 30 villages at Nimgachhi union of the upazila. The dyke was contracted since 2014 with assistance of authority concern to save the people of the union.
In a visit the correspondent found, people of the noted Faridpur, Nandiarpara and Sialypara villages are the worst sufferers due to the severe flood.
The people of the area have been started shifting the home based necessary commodities to the safe place for getting rid of submerged immediately. The old, children and fable people are crying much fearing the collapse.
Department of Agriculture Extension office source said, several hundred hectares of the Chilli, radish, pumpkin, turmeric, arum , ginger, pointed-gourd, bitter -gourd and egg-pant have been inundated due to the flood. The farmers of the area will face worth Tk 7 million as lose in this season, DAE added.
Farmer Dilara Begum, 34, at Nandialpara village of the upazila said, she cultivated some 14 decimal of green chilli borrowing money from local Non-government organization (NGO) in this season but all of the crops has gone under water. Now, she is crying for the returning the money, she added.
Upazila Norbahi officer Razia Sultana said, she has taken immediate step to control the flood situation getting news of dyke collapse. Besides, project implement officer has already visited the spot and take necessary steps, she added.
