A worker of a foreign factory in Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Sangolshi village in Sadar Upazila of the district was killed in machinery accident inside the factory building during working hours on Saturday afternoon .
The victim is identified as Ershad Ali (35) son of Md Kabiruddin of Chairman para village in Chapra Saronjami union of sador upazila in the district and he was a heavy machine operator in Hong Kong -based spectacle factory named Mazen (Bangladesh ) Industries Ltd.
Fellow workers of the victim on condition of anonymity informed that the victim while operating a heavy machine was hit by his head at around 3.30 pm on Saturday.
They alleged that the victim was operating the machine without taking safety measure as there was lacking in monitoring by authority.
Factory officials immediately rushed him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as his condition was serious but he died an hour after admission there at 7.00 pm .
General Manager of Uttara EPZ Abdus Sobhan admitted the accident and said a three- member inquiry committee has been formed headed by AGM Md Khaled.
