AL wins 1, BNP 3, Jamaat 2

The Awami League-backed candidates have won in one upazila- Companyganj of Sylhet in the first phase of upazila election held on Wednesday.
BNP-supported have won in 3 upazilas- Goainghat, Biswnath and Jokigonj while Jammat-backed candidate has won in 2 upazila – Jaintapur and Golapgonj of Sylhet. Companyganj of Sylhet Awami League-backed aspirant Abdul Basir has been elected as Chairman of Companyganj upazila of Sylhet unofficially, defeating another AL candidate Advocate Jahangir Alam. Basir has bagged 25,496 votes while his nearest candidate Jahangir got 19,600 ballots.
Jaintapur, Sylhet: Jamaat-backed Chairman Candidate Joynal Abedin has won the post of Chairman of Jaintapur upazila, Sylhet unofficially. Joynal has got 22,934 votes while his nearest candidate AL rebel candidate Kamal Ahmed bagged 19,067 votes. Golapgonj, Sylhet: Jamaat-backed Chairman Candidate Hafiz Nazmul Islam has won the post of Chairman of Golapgonj upazila, Sylhet unofficially. Nazmul has got 24,369 votes while his nearest candidate AL candidate Iqbal Ahmed bagged 23,602 votes. Goainghat, Sylhet: BNP-backed Chairman Candidate Abdul Hakim has won the post of Chairman of Goainghat upazila, Sylhet unofficially. Hakim has got 43,809 votes while his nearest candidate AL candidate Lebu bagged 33,527 votes.
Biswnath, Sylhet: BNP-backed Chairman Candidate Suhel Hamed Chowdhury has won the post of Chairman of Biswnath upazila, Sylhet unofficially. Suhel has got 32,973 votes while his nearest candidate AL candidate Ponki Khan bagged 26,301 votes.

AL candidate wins Bakerganj UZ polls

Awami League nominated candidate Shamsul Alam Chunnu with Ananas symbol won the chairman post receiving 55,819 votes in 93 out of 94 centers of Bakerganj Upazila Parishad election under Barisal district. His nearest rival BNP -rebel candidate ATM Mashiur Rahman with Pen-Inkpot symbol received 16,056 votes in those centers.
However result of 1 out of total 94 centers yet to be declared, district election officer and returning officer Dulal Talukdar said. He told result of DKP School center at Kalskathi union of Bakerganj with 2,215 votes postponed as voting at that center was suspended on Wednesday noon due to irregularities.
Total about 34 percent out of 2,13,968 voters cast their votes at 94 vote centers with 647 polling booths, the returning officer said. However local journalists and observers said presence of voter were less than 15 percent in vote centers. Mentionable Khalilur Rahman, BNP backed, S M Atikur Rahman, AL-rebel candidate for chairman and BNP backed candidates of other posts jointly holding press conference at the house of BNP leader and former lawmaker Abul Hossain Khan, declared their decision for boycotting poll alleging rigging, failure and biasness of EC and administration for conducting free fair election. They also called day-long Hartal in Bakerganj upazila on Thursday protesting election rigging with the help of EC and administration.

Giasuddin wins Lalmohon UZ polls

Awami League nominated candidate Giasuddin Ahmed with Ananas symbol won the chairman post receiving 75,933 votes in Lalmohon upazila parishad election under Bhola district.
His nearest rival BNP backed candidate Shafiqul Islam Babul with Cup-Plate symbol received 6,200 votes.
Total about 46 percent out of 1,80,518 voters cast their votes at 67 vote centers, said Abu Sayed, additional deputy commissioner and returning officer and Zakir Hossain , Lalmohon upazila nirbahi officer and assistant returning officer. Local journalists and observers also said presence of voter were less than 15 percent in vote centers. Mentionable Shafiqul Islam Babul, BNP backed chairman candidate, Mizanur Rahman, and Parvin Begum. BNP backed vice chairman candidates in Lalmohon holding a press conference at the house of Upazila BNP secretary Marshal Himu announced to boycott the election at about 12:15: noon Wednesday alleging rigging, barring BNP supporter voters and election workers to come to the vote centers, biasness of administration and EC. Local BNP also called day-long Hartal on Thursday in Lalmohon upazila. Earlier Lalmohon BNP-rebel chairman-candidate Akhtaruzzaman Titob also announced boycotting poll.

2 AL, one Jamaat, one BNP candidates win in Jhenidah

Four upazila chairmen candidates out of 15 won in the election held on Wednesday. Of them in Shailkupa AL backed candidate Mosharraf Hossain Sona Shikdar won getting 1, 29367 votes contesting against BNP candidate Rakibul Hasan Khan Dipu who got 23201 votes. He also boycotted election at 11-30pm.
In Sadar upazila BNP candidate Abdul Alim won by getting 1, 05077 votes against AL candidate Kanak Kanti Das who got 66328 votes. In Kotchandpur upazila Jamaat candidate Tajul Islam won the polls by getting 26157 against BNP candidate Sirajul Islam who got 22138.
