UN Peacekeepers Day observed

The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was observed here on Tuesday in a befitting manner. Marking the day, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) organised a UN peacekeepers rally from Alupatty crossing in the city to honour the memories of the UN peacekeepers who laid down their lives for the cause of peace and security in the war-torn countries across the world. After parading some thoroughfares, the rally ended at Rajshahi College.
Then a discussion was held at the college auditorium highlighting thesignificance of the day.

DIG Khurshid Hossain said the purpose of observing the day is to underscore the importance of maintaining global peace, pay tribute to those who are involved in the peacekeeping missions and honour the UN peacekeepers who lost their lives.
Sylhet Bureau reports: The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was observed here in Sylhet with due dignity and fervour. The day was inaugurated by Jalalabad Cantonment, Bateshwar, Sylhet based 17th Infantry Division’s Area Commander Major General S.M. Shamim- uz- Zaman as chief guest. While addressing the ceremony, Major General S.M. Shamim- uz- Zaman said in order to keep peace under the United Nations Organisation (UNO), Bangladesh Army, Navy and Police personnels have been working relentlessly in Peace-Keeping Missions in various countries.
He said these forces have been working for three decades. He added many Bangladeshi Peace Keepers’ including three Army Men in Sylhet Division laid their lives during last four years while discharging duties and many of them (peace -Keeping)sustained to injuries. Money in cash and crests were distributed among the family members of martyred and injured peace-keepers in this occasion.
Prominent among those who addressed the ceremony are Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Dr Najmanara Khanom, DIG Police Sylhet Range Kamrul Ahsan and Sylhet District and Sessions Judge Mortuza Mojumdar.

BSS from Rangpur adds: The International Day of United Nations (UN) Peacekeepers-2018 was observed here on Tuesday through various programmes.
This year’s slogan of observance of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was ‘UN Peacekeepers 70 Years of Service and Sacrifice.’
Rangpur Area Commander and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division Major General Md Masud Razzaque inaugurated the celebrations by releasing balloons ceremonially on Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College premises.
Under management of the 66 Infantry Division of Bangladesh Army, a procession was brought out from Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College premises.
Members of Bangladeshi peacekeepers, officials and members of Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air Force, BGB, Police, BNCC, Bangladesh Ansar and students of different educational institutions took part in the procession.
After parading the adjoining streets, participants of the procession gathered at a discussion followed by honouring the family members of the martyred peacekeepers posthumously at the auditorium of the educational institution.
Major General Md Masud Razzaque attended the functions as the chief guest.
At the beginning of the discussion, a one-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the martyred members of the peacekeepers for their supreme sacrifice and seeking divine blessings for their departed souls.
