Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has organized a three-day long screening of the 13th edition of International Inter-University Short Film Festival starting from yesterday (Saturday). The screening will continue till September 27 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy meanwhile, the award-giving ceremony will be held at September 30, in Star Cineplex . Among others, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Division and Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal, Professor and Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka will be honorable guests of the occasion. Every year, the festival aims to feature a native art form in order to introduce the world to the country’s incredibly rich culture and history. This year in this edition of IIUSFF, the main theme is ‘Nakshi Kantha’ or embroidered quilt. Nakshi Kantha is a century-old traditional Bengali art. It refers to well-worn clothes that feature ‘Naksha’ or artistic patterns sewn by rural women. The quilts provide a canvas to these artisans to weave their thoughts, aspirations and stories into each colorful design and find a home for their creative expressions. Every Kantha gracefully embodies the rural women’s sense of agency and incorruptible artistic vision. In 2007, International Inter-University Short Film Festival initiated its journey with the motto’Take your camera, frame your dream’ to provide young and talented university-going filmmakers worldwide, a platform to showcase their talent. Over the years it has succeeded in creating a name of its own and working as a cross-cultural platform to portray the different styles and dimensions of young university-going filmmakers throughout the world. Despite another pandemic-ravaged year, the festival continues to reach new heights. Congratulations and all the best to the filmmakers who have participated this year.
