The Education Ministry as suggested by the University Grants Commission (UGC) took the decision of not allowing the functioning of the outer campuses of the Prime University any more. A letter in this connection has already been sent to the Home Ministry with request to remove signboards and other equipment of the university. Education Secretary Dr Mohammad Sadik admitted of sending the letter to the Home Ministry for taking action. “We have sent the letter on receipt of the report of the panel advocate of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on June 17 this year,” he said.
Prime University was established in 2002 with the approval of Education Ministry. The pioneers of the university consented to establish a new branch at Uttara on after KSB Consultant Firm agreed to fund.
The UGC sent a letter to Prime University to stop all the academic activities after enactment of Private University Act 2010. The UGC clearly said that no outer campus of any private university would be allowed. But the KSB Consultant Firm claimed that the Uttara campus of Prime University was the main campus. The Chairman of the firm Abul Hossain lodged many cases against the pioneer of the university. At one stage Abul Hossain managed everything and got the ownership of the university.
The UGC Panel Advocate A B M Bayezid investigated the cases and submitted a report to UGC mentioning Mirpur campus as the legal one only. The remaining five branches of the university, including Uttara campus, are illegal.
The other illegal branches are Dhanmondi 27, Baridhara, Mirpur Chiriakhana Road and Farmgate.
