The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh yesterday suspended MA Wares, Assistant Secretary (Protocol and Liaison) in the wake of media reports on him on charge of stealing money at a duty-free shop at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The commission took the decision yesterday at a special meeting with Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC in the Chair. All the Members of UGC were present during the meeting, says a press release.
The commission suspended him as per the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1985, (2), Section F. The office order no- 1(190)UGC-82(Part-1)/06/5625, 05-07-2017. UGC beliefs its image seriously hampered due to the allegation brought against him.
The UGC also formed a five-member probe committee, headed by its member Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, to investigate the allegation brought against MA Wares. The other members are- Prof Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain and Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Members, UGC. Khandker Hamidur Rahman, Director, IMCT Division, UGC was made as member secretary of the probe committee. The committee was asked to submit its report within 10 working days.
