Two prosecution witnesses (PWs) in the trial of five alleged Razakars from Kishoreganj on Thursday submitted their depositions at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, narrating the monstrous offenses committed by the accused in 1971.
Golam Mostafa and Md Akkas testified as PW-3 and 4 respectively and described how Razakar commander Gazi Md Abdul Mannan and his cronies Nasir Uddin Ahmed, his brother Shamsuddin Ahmed, Md Hafiz Uddin, Azharul Islam and others unleashed mayhem in and around Karimganj area of Kishoreganj.
“Enraged by the blowing up of the Perua Bridge, that connects Karimganj with Chamra Bandar, by the Freedom Fighters, the five accused and their cohorts attacked villages Ayla, Bidya Nagar, Fotur Gop and Kirton Bilpara on November 12, 1971.
“They kept on firing indiscriminately and killed many people including Abdul Mazid, Abdul Zabbar, my cousin Habibullah, Aftab Uddin, Sirajuddin, Chandu Sheikh, and his son Abdul Malek Sheikh. They swooped on our village Ayla the next day also and shot and killed my uncle Miah Hossain,” said Mostafa.
At the end of his long deposition, the 58-year-old wood trader identified Shamsuddin, the only accused in custody right now, in the dock and pleaded for maximum punishment for all the five accused.
Akkas also echoed Mostafa and narrated the killing of Miah Hossain by Nasir. He said at least seven to eight people were killed by the Razakars in the village of Bidyanagar on November 12, 1971.
