Two ‘drug dealers’ killed in ‘gunfight’

Two suspected drug traders were killed in separate gunfights with the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas of Cox’s Bazar distirct on Sunday.
One of the deceased was identified as Md Shahjahan, 27, of Dailpara under Ukhiya upazila.
Over 50,000 Yaba tablets and armes were recovered in two upazilas of the district.
Cox’s Bazar 34 BGB captain Lt Col Ali Haider Azad Ahmed said based on secret information that a consignment of Yaba tablets from Myanmar will enter the country, a team enhanched their patrolling along Rezuamtali border area.
At one stage, the BGB personnel singnalled a gang of 4-5 members while they tried to entre into Ukhiya through the border.
Ignoring the signal, the gang opened fired on the BGB men.
The BGB members also fired back for self-defence that triggered a gunfight around 10.00am, the offical said.
Later, they recovered the body of Shahjahan from the scene and huge Yaba tables and arms fom his possession.
Meanwhile, another suspected Yaba trader was killed in a reported shootout near Taknaf border area this morning, said Lt Col Foisal Hasan Khan, Captain of BGB Teknafa-2.
The official did not confirmed the identity of the deceased while filing the report till 12noon.
Huge number of Yaba tablets and arms were also recovered from the spot, Col Foisal Hasan added.
