Police in separate drives arrested five yaba traders with 5,102 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from city’s Kalamia Bazar area and Lohagara Upazila of the district on Wednesday night and yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Kabir Hossain, 35, Mohammad Ibrahim, 26, Mohammad Mostafiz, 48, Aman-e-Alam, 25 and Khan-e-Alam, 46.
Bakalia police on secret information conducted a drive at a pickle laden truck in Kalamia Bazar area of Bakalia around 8 am today and recovered 5,000 pieces of yaba tablets from the oil tank of the truck, said Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakalia police station.
Police also arrested the truck, its driver Kabir and his assistant Ibrahim in this connection. The detainees confessed that they had been involved in yaba trading for long the OC said adding that legal steps would be taken after investigation.
Besides, Lohagara police in a separate drive detained yaba traders-Mostafiz, Aman and Alam with 102 pieces of yaba tablets and Taka 42 thousand cash from Amirabad area of the upazila around 9.30pm on Wednesday.
