Two twin sisters of 3.5 years of age have drowned while trying to gather water lilies at a pond in Jhenaidah’s Moheshpur Upazila.
The incident occurred in Natima Union’s Ujjalpur village on Thursday morning, said Union Parishad Member Montu Miah. The two children, Hashi and Khushi, were the daughters of local resident Zahurul Islam.
Montu Miah is also a resident of the village. The two girls were playing near the house in the morning, he said. They went with two other children to gather water lilies from a nearby pond. When the girls went under water, the other two children ran to inform the adults. “Their relatives rescued them and took them to the Moheshpur Upazila Medical Complex, where doctors declared them dead.” They had died before reaching the hospital, Dr Mahbubul Alam said.
