A Chattogram court has framed charges against 18 people, including top Jamaat leader and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury, in a case filed against him for vandalizing a Buddhist monastery in Charti Union of Satkania Police Station of Chattogram district..
Charges were framed against the accused in the court of Chittagong Chief Judicial Magistrate Kamrunnahar Rumi on Monday (December 27) afternoon.
The court has fixed March 30 as the date for taking evidence. Shahjahan Chowdhury was present in the court at the hearing of the charge sheet. Shahjahan was produced in court from jail. Out of 18 accused, 13 are fugitives. Shahjahan Chowdhury is out on bail in the case.
According to court sources, after the life term sentence of Jamaat leader Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayedee, a case was filed against unknown persons in Satkania police station for vandalizing a Buddhist monastery in Charti union of Satkania police station. The investigating officer of the case gave chargesheet against 18 people including Shahjahan Chowdhury. The court has framed charges against 18 accused including Shahjahan Chowdhury in the case and ordered to start the trial. Testimony will start from March 30 next.
