Meanwhile, Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik League called for withdrawing the strike for the sake of the passengers and the suppliers of seasonal fruits. “The people of the south-western region are isolated from Dhaka. Huge seasonal fruits are also being damaged due to the strike. The transport owners and workers should withdraw the strike through holding meeting with the concerned authorities,” Insur Ali, general secretary of the Sramik League, said in a statement on Sunday.
Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said that there was no logic in the strike call demanding the release of the staff, who were arrested in connection with a bus robbery. “Why legal action can’t be taken against bus driver and helper if they were involved with the bus robbery?” he said while talking to journalists in Kushtia.
