To fulfill the commitment of the present Government- bringing every family in rural areas under electricity coverage, the Government has taken a coal-based thermal power project with the investment of local and foreign companies at a total cost of Tk Tk 4.5 billion at Taltali Upazila in Barguna district and the work of the project is progressing fast .
To respond the Government call , Iso-Tech Group came forward to establish 350- megawatt power plant in the coastal district Barguna. ‘Iso-Tech Electrification Company Limited’, a subsidiary of this group is going to establish the power plant at Nishanbaria, under Taltali Upzila, in the district. With the goal of production from the beginning of 2022, Iso-Tech has been continuing its necessary works. After the start of production, the minimum 307- megawatt power will be connected to the national grid.
Iso-Tech Group’s Media Advisor and Senior Photo Journalist Firoz Chowdhury said, on the 12th of April this year, Iso-Tech has completed the agreement (Purchase Agreement and Implementation) with the Bangladesh Power Development Board and the Government of Bangladesh.
The project is being jointly implemented by China’s ‘Power China Resource Limited’ and ‘Iso Tech Electrification Company Limited’, a subsidiary of Iso-Tech Group of Bangladesh. The project will be run as ‘Barishal Electric Power Company Limited’ and the total project cost is estimated to be around Tk 4.5 billion ($ 540 million). This power plant will be building in a total of 300 acres of land and as per the treaty with the government; it will supply electricity for 25 years. However, the minimum price will be reduced to 4 taka per unit, in adjusting with coal price.
It was learnt and found that, the distance of this power plant is at least 6.38 kilometers from Tengragiri reserve forest (Fatrar Chor) and 21 kilometers away from the Sundarban. Since the power plant is two kilometers from reserve forest and 10 kilometers away from the Sundarban (World Heritage), the forest department has already given the no-objection certificate. In addition, since there are no government land and no land under forest department in the under-construction area, the land and forest department has issued no-objection certificate already. Meanwhile, after getting the positional certificates of the Directorate of Environment, the acquisition of land, purchase of land, construction of dams and establishing the project is going rapidly. After completing this kind of primary work, the construction clearance will be given by the Directorate of Environment.
Iso-Tech sources said that, landless people who are living project adjacent Water development board’s places, three and a half acres of land were bought for their rehabilitation. For building 120 family houses with the land, registry in their name, the process is running. Meanwhile, three and a half acres of land have been purchased for rehabilitation. Land will be given permanently each landless people by registry. The house will be built for them on the land. Since the area’s water is salty, the pure drinking water will be supplied to the locals by establishing water supply system.
After building the power plant there will be huge employment opportunity in this area. This power plant will create 3,500 employment opportunities. Besides, for the local people’s benefit schools, road, colleges, hospitals and various religious institutions will be built in the project area, also said Iso-Tech Group’s Media Advisor Firoz Chowdhury.
