The poorer section people are being benefited by getting 30 kilogram rice at only Taka 10 per kilogram every month from September in all eight districts under Rangpur division during the seasonal lean period.
Talking to BSS, a large number of the card holder beneficiary families of different areas expressed happiness after receiving 30 kilogram rice at Taka 10 per kilogram for the month of September under the government’s ‘The food-friendly programme.’
Poor housewife Latifun Nahar, a day-labourer of village Shyampur in Chandanpat union of Sadar upazila in Rangpur said she received 30 kilogram rice from the union parishad few days back to meet food demand of her family comprising of six members.
“I am very happy to get the rice at only Taka 10 per kilogram. It is unbelievable to me that rice could be purchased at Taka 10 per kilogram at such a time when the same quality rice is being sold at Taka 40 per kilogram in open markets,” Nahar said.
Farm-labouer Hosne Ara of village Iswarpur in the same upazila said, “I got 30 kilogram rice few days back at Taka 10 per kilogram to feed seven members of my family and I will get the same for October and November next during this lean season.”
Bulbuli Begum, also a poor farm-laborer, of village Srirampur in the same union said she is very happy after getting 30 kilogram rice at Taka 10 per kilogram for September to feed her family comprising of five members.
Chairman of Chandanpat union Aminur Rahman said he already distributed 55.11 tonnes of rice at Taka 10 per kilogram to the 1,837 card holder beneficiary families.
“I will get more 55.11 tonnes of rice for October and November next under the programme to distribute among beneficiary families,” he said adding that he also distributed rice at Taka 10 per kilogram during March and April earlier this year.
Similarly, card holder beneficiary day-labourers Manik Chandra Sen, Shyamol Chandra sen, Bhabesh Chandra Mohanto and Sunil Chandra Sen of village Gangadas Baraipara in Haridebpur union of Rangpur said they are happy after getting the rice at Taka 10 per kilogram for September.
Chairman of Haridebpur union Iqbal Hossain told BSS that he already distributed 30 kilogram rice at Taka 10 per kilogram to the 2,325 card holder beneficiary families of his union.
“The government will allocate more 69.75 tonnes of rice every month for October and November next for distribution among the beneficiary families,” he said adding that he also distributed rice at Taka 10 per kilogram in last March and April.
Similarly, other card holder beneficiaries of different areas expressed happiness after getting 30 kilogram rice at Taka 10 per kilogram for September and thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government for assisting them under the epoch-making programme.

The government is providing every card holder beneficiary family with 30 kilogram rice monthly at Taka 10 per kilogram for five months during the lean season annually under the programme aimed at making rice available for the ultra-poor at a very low price.
“Under the programme, 25,411 tonnes of rice is being sold to card holder beneficiaries of eight districts under Rangpur division every month,” he said adding that beneficiary families are getting rice at Taka 10 per kilogram for September, October and November after getting the same for March and April early this year.
