Staff Reporter :
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said that action will be taken against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman for allegedly giving bribe to an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official.
“He must have committed a crime, which is why he had to cover it up by paying bribes,” the minister said while giving his speech as the chief guest at an event held at the Bakhsibazar Prison Headquarters on Wednesday morning.
ACC suspended its Director Khandaker Enamul Basir on Monday for breaching service rules.
A private TV channel reported on Sunday that Basir had taken Tk 25 lakh as bribe from Mizan to give him a clean chit in a corruption case. He had also asked the DIG to pay him another amount of Tk 15 lakh within the next week.
Before talking to the reporters, the home minister also inaugurated a fair exhibition organised by the Security Services Division.
Responding to another query, he said that actions will be taken against DIG Mizanur Rahman if it is proved that he bribed the ACC Director Khandaker Enamul Basir.
“We are investigating to find out whether he bribed or not,” Kamal said. “On the other hand, we are also investigating the charges that he amassed a huge amount of illegal wealth.”
Mizanur will be brought to book if all the charges against him are proven true, he said.
