UNB, Dhaka :
BNP chairperson’s adviser and Bangladesh Bar Council vice-chairman Khandaker Mahbub Hossain on Saturday urged the government to arrange a referendum to test its popularity.
“The government doesn’t believe in people’s power …it hasn’t been elected through people’s votes. The government is illegal …it shouldn’ t be allowed to rule the country for a long period. The government has lost its ground beneath its feet. The country’s people are pro-democratic and they must establish democracy,” he said.
He said this while addressing a discussion organised by All Community Forum, a pro-BNP platform at the Jatiya Press Club in the city.
Mahbub said, though many foreigners have congratulated the government on its assuming of office,
but they did not recognise the January 5 polls.
The BNP chief’s adviser alleged that the government assumed state power with the help of plainclothes law enforcers. “They’ve violated the constitution. They’ll have to face trial for this.
Jubo Dal president Moazzeem Hossain Alal, among others, spoke at the programme held with Forum adviser Ashraf Uddin Bakul in the chair.
