UNB, Laxmipur :
Reiterating that they have been elected for five years, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said it depends on time and country’s situation whether the present government will remain in power unit the expiry of its tenure.
“Time and situation will say whether we (Awami League-led ruling alliance) will stay in power for five years,” he said while addressing a function arranged at Abirnagar of Laxmipur Municipality at noon.
Pointing finger at the BNP-led 19-party alliance, Obaidul, also Awami League presidium member,
said: “There’s no alternative to election in transferring power. It’ll not be possible to topple the government through felling trees, digging up roads and unleashing violence in the name of movement.”
Observing that BNP made a grave mistake by boycotting the national polls, the minister said after realising their mistakes, they took part in the ongoing upazila parishad elections.
He also said they do not feel relieved as a big party like BNP is absent in parliament.
AL MPs AKM Shahjahan Kamal and M Abdullah and Jatiya Party (Ershad-led) MP MA Noman were, among others, present at the function presided over by Laxmipur Municipality mayor Abu Taher.
