Chandrodip hit back to winning way in Bangladesh Games

Chandrodip South Zone hit back in style, shrugging off the nightmare of first match as they outclassed Chattola East Zone by eight wickets in their second match of the male cricket event of Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games at Abdur Rab Serniabat Stadium (ARSS) in Barishal on Sunday.
Chandrodip, which lost the first game to Varendra North Zone by a mammoth 211 runs after being all out for just 26, brought them back in right track following the win, which also kept their hopes alive to move to the final. Opting to bat first, Chattola which won the first game against Jahangirabad Central Zone by 63 runs, put up 168 before being all out in 48.3 overs. Chandrodip however gunned down the target, making 170-2 in 38.2 overs.
Opener Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan led the charge with 71 not out, hitting five fours and two sixes. He was ably supported by Sohag Ali, who also contributed in team’s brilliant victory with an unbeaten 50 off 61, clobbering five fours and one six.
The duo shared 95-run in an undefeated third wicket stand to ensure the side’s comprehensive victory. They however began the chase miserably with opener Abvik Ghosh Biltu being out on 6. Rizwan and Habibur then brought the side back in contention with 60-run partnership.
After Habibur was dismissed for 39, Rizwan sailed the team home, accompanied by Sohag.
Ahmed Sharif and Mazharul Haque took one wicket apiece for Chattola.
Earlier, Rasehdur Islam ripped through Chattola batting line up with 4-36. His effort was complemented by Hasib Hawladar and Nurul Hasan who both scalped two wickets.
No. 9 batsman Mustafizur Rahman was the highest scorer for Chattola with 44 runs. Radwan Hossain was the other notable scorer with 31 while Ahmed Sharif made 23.
Varendra North Zone will take on Jahangirabad Central Zone tomorrow (Monday) at the same venue.
The cricket event in the Games is a single-league basis tournament in which two finalists will be decided, based on the points. The final will be held on April 10, the day when the curtain of the Games will be closed.
The two teams that will not qualify for the final will depart Barishal on April 9 while the two finalists will leave Barishal on April 11, as per the decision taken by the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
