Tension prevails on the Dhaka University campus over derogatory Facebook status posted by few leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
Chase and counter-chase took place on Tuesday between supporters of two central leaders beside the Madhu’s Canteen on the campus. No one was, however, injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, BCL central committee suspended Liton Mahmud, Central Deputy Secretary of Hospitality Affairs for 15 days and asked Kabi Jasimuddin Hall President Mehedi Hasan Roni to show cause as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
Sources said, Roni went to Dhaka International Trade Fair on Saturday. There a snap of Pran Milk store, a female visitor and Mehedi with six packets of Pran Milk in hands was taken. Later Mehedi posted a comment on Facebook.
Against it, Afrin Nusrat, Organision Secretary of BCL central committee, reacted, commenting, ‘Stupid’. She also asked: Who has made Mehedi leader?
To this, a supporter of Mehedi hurled abusive words at Afrin Nusrat, who felt aggrieved having read the comment, protested the comment and showed it to many of the party leaders.
On Monday, some of two hundred female students of the university formed a human chain at the base of Razu Memorial Sculpture, protesting the derogatory speech about women on facebook. They demanded punishment to those who were involved in such indecent incidents.
Liton Mahmud again posted another comment where he said that some immoral girls were living in the society. Every one should keep themselves aloof from those girls. It created a new development on the campus yesterday.
BCL DU unit President Mehedi Hasan Mollah and General Secretary Omar Sharif met Afrin Nusrat and Mehedi Hasan Roni on the first floor of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) for reconciliation but failed.
