Land grabbing violating court injunction: Tense situation prevails in Christian community members in Barisal

A tense situation has been prevailing as Christian community members came under attack by the land grabbers violating court injunction recently.
Merry Johnson, Secretary , Barisal Baptist Church Association, said industrialist group Khan Sons on the basis of the fake documents created by them and using muscle power on Friday afternoon tried to took possession of a portion of land of the Christian community.
At least five members of the community members named Ranjit Mallik, Jibon Baroi, Shova Bala, Mala Biswas, and Ranu Bala were injured by the cadres of Khan Sons group. The injured were treated at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, Marry told.
Marry alleged that the Olympic Properties Limited, an organ of Khan Sons and Company and in collaboration with their associates so-called leaders of Bangladesh Baptist Church Sangha, grabbed Christian lands worth Tk 30 crore in the city.
She said the realtor OPL, secretly purchasing the 2.53 acres of land worth Tk 30 crore in a throw away price of Tk 8.82 crore in collaboration with their associates, forcibly evicted the ultra poor Christian families from their land, damaged their properties and fell down their planted trees on September 8, 2012.
She claimed that the land grabbed by Olympic Properties Limited (OPL) was owned by Barisal Baptist Mission Society (BBMS) and it was earmarked for the ultra poor families of the community.
The property was non-transferable or non-saleable as per constitutions of Bangladesh Baptist Church Sangha, Barisal Baptist Mission Association, Bangladesh Christian Association and trustee law, said Advocate Manabendra Batobayal, pleader of the Christian.
The Christian Community leaders demanded punishment of the grabber and their associates, urged government interference for rehabilitations of the evicted Christian people.
Ansar Ali Haoladar, general manager of Khan Sons Group, denying the allegation claimed they legally purchased the land for construction of a specialised hospital of mother and children.
When eight member of the Christian community willingly tried to hand over their properties to OPL, other members of the community attacked them on Friday noon.
Ataur Rahman, officer in charge of Barisal Kotwali police station, as there was case pending in court and injunction order enforced so after hearing the incident police force rushed to the spot.
Sub -Inspector Asaduzzaman, second officer of the police station, said police controlled to situation and deployed in the spot to maintain law and order.
The Christian community leaders condemned the grabber and their associates and called the government to take action against the land grabbers and rehabilitate the affected ultra poor families immediately.
Mentionable OPL staff accompanied with armed cadres and labourers led by Shafikul Alam Gulzar, councilor of BCC ward-11 and former district treasurer of Awami League, evicted the 44 landless families from 2.53 acres of land on September 8, 2015 evening.
As soon as the eviction was complete, the perpetrators hung a signboard of proposed South Wave Medical College and Children’s Hospital there. After the incident, the poor families took shelter in the adjacent Baptist church compound.
