2 Shibir leaders arrested in Sylhet

Police arrested two leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, from Monsuria Madrasah Trimohini area in Kanaighat upazila on Thursday morning. The arrestees were identified as Rashid Ahmed, 26, president of Kanaighat upazila unit Shibir, and Jubayer Ahmed, 24, president of the organisation’s Kanaighat Degree College unit. Acting on secret information, police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them around 11:00 am. Rashid was sent to the court after the arrest. Abdul Awal Chowdhury, officer-in- charge of Kanaighat Police Station, said police had two warrants for arrest of Rashid.
JCD activists held in Sylhet robbery case
Police arrested a local activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Madina Market area of the city on Tuesday night in connection with a robbery case. The arrestee was identified as Osman Gani, a local activist of JCD and son of Abdul Motaleb of the area. Police said Osman is a fugitive accused in a robbery case filed with Jalalabad Police Station.
Concerted efforts to combat Hepatitis-C stressed

An advocacy workshop on ‘Hepatitis C among PWID’ was held at the conference room of the Chapainawabganj civil surgeon’s office with the association of National AIDS/STD programme and Save the Children on Thursday. Chapainawabganj Civil Surgeon’s office and non-government organizations CARE Bangladesh and Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society jointly organized the programme. It was held with the civil surgeon Dr. Mozahar Hossain in the chair while deputy commissioner Mohammad Jahangir Kabir attended it as chief guest. It was addressed among others, by mayor of Chapainawabganj Municipality Maolana Abdul Matin, deputy director of Chapainawabganj Family Planning office Dr. Paritosh Kumar Pal, acting executive director of Proyas Md. Shah Azad Iqbal and project manager of the same Faruk Ahmed. Programme manager of GFATM programme of CARE Bangladesh SM Rezaul Islam and technical coordinator Dr. Abul Hossain Sheikh presented the key note paper. Condition of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C in Bangladesh, specially in Chapainawabganj, vulnerability of those who take drugs through injection for Hepatitis C infection, GFATM Programme and government and non-government coordinated efforts were discussed in the workshop. The speakers stressed on concerted effort for combating Hepatitis C infection and other infectious diseases.
Cattle fattening tablets, sari recovered in Bogra

Bogra police seized 10 lakh cattle fattening tablets, 130 pieces of Indian sari, a mini truck and arrested 3 peddlers from Matidali area of Bogra on Tuesday morning. The arrested were Gulam Mawla, 31, son of late Amzad Hossain of Mastarpara under Gobindaganj upazila, Aynul Haque, 33, son of Akbar Ali and Md. Roni, 22, son of Jahan Ali from Gaibandha district. Police said that acting on a tip-off a team of police conducted a drive in the area on Rangpur-Dhaka highway in the morning and seized the mini truck with the mentioned Tablets, Sari both worth TK. 11.30 lakh. Officer-in-charge (OC) of DB police Bogra Mizanur Rahman said that a case will be lodged on special power act with Sadar PS on Tuesday afternoon.
Sundari wood worth Tk.5 lakh recovered in Sharankhola

Some 300 CFT cut baned Sundari log wood of Sundarban forest was recovered by the Forest G uards from Marabhola area under Sharankhola forest range in the Eastern Division of Sundarban forest on Tuesday morning. The market price of the recovered Sundari wood is more than Tk.5 lakh. It is learnt from Kamal Ahmed, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), Sharankhola Forest Range that acting on a secret information a contingent of the forest guards led by him raided Marabhola area within Supdati forest office under Sharankhola forest range on the day, seized a number of rafts made of the lower portions of Gol leaves in Bogi canal and recovered some 300 CFT Sundari log wood which was tied with them (rafts) under their surface.
