At least 10 persons died with corona-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours amid rising number of patients infected by the mysterious virus originated in Chinese city of Wuhan last December.
Two died B’baria, and one each in Sunamganj, Rangpur, Manikganj, Nilphamari, Narayanganj, Panchagarh, Rajshahi and Shariatpur.
The authorities however, concerned have so far confirmed 20 death linked to coronavirus.
In B’baria two inhabitants died with coronavirus symptoms.
Of them, a 45-year-old farmer of Charchhauni village under Ayubpur union in Baanchharampur upazila died in the isolation ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday evening.
Brahmanbaria Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Ekram Ullah said that the man was admitted to Baanchharampur Upazila Health Complex on Monday morning with coronavirus symptoms –fever, cough and breathing problems.
Later, the patient was referred to the DMCH where he died.
Some 16 people, who have come in contact with the deceased, have been asked to go for home quarantine.
Meanwhile, a Malaysia-returnee died of respiratory problems in his in-laws’ house at Jethagram in Nasirnagar upazila on Tuesday night.
The man had been at home quarantine for 14 days but had no symptoms of the virus during the period.
He fell sick on April 4 and, later, was diagnosed with typhoid.
But, he died with breathing problems on Tuesday night.
Confirming the matter, Nasirnagar UNO Nazma Ashrafi said sample from the deceased was collected for test, and the house was put under lockdown.
In Sunamganj, a 22-year-old man died with Covid-19 symptoms in Dowarabazar upazila of Sunamganj on Tuesday night.
His swab was collected and sent for test at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and his neighbouring houses have been put under lockdown, said Dr Delwar Hossain, Upazila Health officer.
Quoting his family members, the doctor said, “The young man used to work as a kilnday labourer in Sylhet and returned home at Boktarpur village some 15 days ago with illness.”
He died at home suffering from fever, cough and breathing problem, the health official said.
Preparation for his burial, maintaining protocol, is under progress, he said.
In Rangpur a 30-year-old young woman died of COVID-19 in a hospital in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur on Wednesday morning.
Cleaner by profession, the woman had been suffering from fever, cold and cough for some days. The family members took her to Haragachha 31-Bed Hospital on Tuesday night as she felt throat-ache and her diarhoea started, the hospital Chief Health Officer Dr Md Shamsuzzaman confirmed.
He said the woman’s sample was collected and it has been sent to PCR lab of Rangpur Medical College.
After getting health report, it will be confirmed wheather she developed coronavirus or not.
In Manikganj an elderly suffering from fever and breathing complications died at Golora village in Saturia upazila on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 65,of the village.
Saturia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashraful Alam said Anwar Hossain had been suffering from fever and breathing problem for the last few days and died in the morning.
His sample was collected for coronavirus test, he said.
After his death, two houses were locked down and 16 people were sent to quarantine, said the UNO.
In Nilphamari a 65-year-old man suffering from cold and fever died at Domar upazila in Nilphamari district while a physician of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex was reportedly found infected by coronavirus on Wednesday.
The old man who was receiving treatment for fever, cold and cough at his Khanpara village died in the early morning, said
Domar Upazila Health Officer Dr Md Ibrahim.
Sample of the deceased was collected and sent to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for coronavirus test while his house has been put under lockdown, said Dr Ibrahim.
Officer-in-charge of Domar Police Station Mostafizur Rahman said they buried the body as locals were afraid of making any arrangement for his burial.
Meanwhile, a physician of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex was kept in isolation after he was reportedly found infected by the virus while another 243 people, including doctors and nurses, were sent to home quarantine.
Civil Surgeon Ranjit Kumar Barman said the Health Complex was put under lockdown at 5pm on Tuesday and urged the local people to take necessary treatment from Community Clinics at union level.
The infected doctor, whose name was not disclosed, went to Dhaka on March 25 and fell sick after he returned to his workplace on April 3.
In Narayanganj, a young man died from breathing complications at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Miyad, 23, son of Shahidullah of Sadar upazila in Narayanganj.
The youth was admitted to the medicine ward of the hospital on April 5. Following his breathing problems, he was kept at the isolation unit where he died around 8am, said Inspector Bachchu Miah, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost.
In Panchagarh, A teenage girl died from fever and respiratory problems at Tepriganj in Debiganj upazila on Tuesday.
The victim, Hafeza Khatun, 14, returned to her home from Tangail district on Monday. She had been suffering from fever and breathing problems for several days, said Golam Rahman, Chairman of Tepriganj union parishad.
Dr Mohammad Hasinur Rahman, a Health Officer of Debiganj Upazila Health Complex, said Hafeza died in the afternoon at her home.
On information, a medical team collected samples from Hafeza on Tuesday and sent those to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for test, he said.
In Rajshahi, an elderly man, who returned from a Tablighi congregation, died in quarantine at Uttar Milikbhagha village in Bagha upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam Azad, 65, of the village.
Family sources said Azad returned home after attending Tablighi congregation in Kushtia on April 5. Before going to Kushtia, he also went to India and joined a Tabligh congregation.
The devotee went on self-isolation at a local madrasah where he died around 6am.
Deputy Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Dr Saiful Ferdous said samples were taken from the body to ascertain whether he was infected with coronavirus.
In Shariatpur, a 34-year-old man died from breathing complication yesterday while undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.
“The man, hailing from Kolargaon village under Naria upazila, was admitted to the isolation ward with severe breathing problems yesterday. He died at around 3:45pm yesterday,” said, Dr Munir Ahmed Khan, Superintendent of the Hospital.
“We collected samples from the man for coronavirus test yesterday. The samples were sent to the IEDCR,” he said.
The body would be buried by the Islamic Foundation according to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Munir added.
The government’s Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed 54 more cases of the coronavirus infection, taking the total number of positive tests to 218 on Wednesday.
