Academic activities of newly opened six Departments of Rajshahi University (RU) are being severely hampered due to acute shortage of teachers, lacking of lab and seminar library.
Despite that the authority of the university is going to launch a new department named ‘Business and Trade Law’ under the law faculty this year.
University source, International Relation, Banking and Insurance departments were lunched in academic session 2014-2015 while Law and Land Administration, Clinical Psychology, Physical studies and Sports Science and Electrical and Electronic Engineering departments were launched in 2015-2016 session under different faculties.
Sources said, there existing only 18 teachers against 802 students of those six departments. According to university ordinance, one teacher will be appointed against 17 students while 44 students are getting only one teacher of those six departments.
Students said, there is no Lab in Clinical Psychology and Electrical and Electric Engineering department even students are not getting seminar facilities yet. They are irritated because of day long extra class.
Despite that, Banking and Insurance Department dropped application to the university for EMBA program, said University source.
RU Pro vice-chancellor Prof Ananda Kumar Saha said, University authority is going to launch the new department as University Grant Commission (UGC) already approved it. The academic activities of this department will be started this year probably.
RU Registrar Prof M A Bari said, UGC is mainly responsible of this teachers crisis. We informed UGC about the crisis while they gave a primary approval of appointing definite sum of teachers. There need the final approval of appointment according to the next Appointment regulations of UGC, he added.
