Taskforce wants more security measures for diplomats

The taskforce on the security of diplomats and diplomatic premises on Thursday recommended some new measures to strengthen security of diplomats and officials of the diplomatic missions.
The taskforce expressed satisfaction over the steps taken so far to enhance vigilance and patrol in the diplomatic area as it reviewed security aspects of the diplomats and officials of the diplomatic missions as well as international organizations in Bangladesh.
The taskforce at its first meeting held here this afternoon also discussed overall security issues of foreigners in Bangladesh following the two back-to-back terror attacks in a Gulshan cafe in Dhaka and Sholakia in Kishorganj early last month.
Foreign Minister A H Mahmood Ali chaired the meeting held at State Guest House Padma, according to foreign ministry sources.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, PM’s Principal Secretary, Foreign Secretary and representatives of the ministry of home, economic relations division, police, armed forces division and other agencies were present.
The government has recently formed the taskforce headed by Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.
Representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, home ministry and law enforcement agencies are part of the eight-member taskforce.
