TAO calls on UGC Chairman

Shigeki TAO, South Asian Bureau Chief, The Yomiuri Shimbun, the largest newspaper of Japan, called on UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at the latter’s office on Monday.
During the courtesy call, they discussed on the militancy and terrorism issues. The UGC Chairman said that militancy and terrorism issues are not problem of Bangladesh but now a global one. He also apprised Shigeki TAO of the steps taken by UGC and Bangladesh government to root out militancy and terrorism from the country.
He also informed Shigeki TAO that every university has formed a monitoring cell comprising of teachers under the direction of UGC to monitor the activities of students. The monitoring cells send their reports to UGC about their activities on a regular basis. The UGC Chairman also said militancy and terrorism activities are now fully controlled in Bangladesh following the law enforceing agencies’ time-befitting actions. He also observed that guardians, society and all concerned should work jointly to address the problem.
UGC Chairman highlighted the overall scenario of higher education of Bangladesh to Shigeki TAO. He also remembered the contribution of Japan government in development activities of Bangladesh with gratitude.
