Gazi Group Chattogram beat Minister Group Rajshahi by 36 runs in their last round robin league match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Sent into bat first, Chattogram piled up a fighting total of 175 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then restricted Rajshahi to 139 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.
Gazi Group Chattogram led the points table bagging 14 points from eight matches, while Minister Group Rajshahi took the bottom spot earning four points from as many matches.
Chattogram made a superb start as the openers Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar put on together 122 runs in the opening stand before Soumya Sarkar was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Anisul Islam Emon.
Soumya Srakar hit his team’s highest of 63. His 48-ball innings was studded with four sixes and three fours.
After Soumya’s dismissal, Liton Das could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was bowled out by Rejaur Rahman when Chattogram’s total was 126 for the loss of two wickets.
Liton Das struck an impressive 55. His 43-ball knock was belted with five fours and a sixer.
After Liton’s departure, Shamsur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman built a worthy partnership. They put up together 43 runs in the unbroken fifth wicket stand.
Shamsur Rahman remained unbeaten with 30 runs. He cracked three sixes and a four in his 18-ball innings.
Anisul Islam Emon of Minister Group Rajshahi bagged two wickets at the cost of 21 runs, while Mohammad Saifuddin and Rejaur Rahman got one wicket each conceding 32 and 38 runs respectively.
Later, Minister Group Rajshahi lost their early three wickets for 33 runs.
Then Nurul Hasan and Fazle Mahmud added together 36 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Fazle Mahmud (19) was trapped leg before wicket by Rakibul Hasan when Rajshahi’s score was 69 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mahmud’s departure, Nurul Hasan and Mehedi Hasan contributed together 34 runs in the five-wicket stand before Mehedi Hasan was caught by Nahidul Islam off Shoriful Islam when Rajshahi’s total was 103 for the loss of five wickets.
Nurul Hasan hit a run-a-ball 28 including two fours.
Mehedi Hasan made 26 from 17 balls featuring three fours.
After Mehedi’s departure, Rajshahi failed to make any notable partnership.
Nahidul Islam grabbed three wickets at the cost of 19 runs, while Ziaur Rahman bagged two wickets instead of 17 runs. Nahidul Islam was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Rakibul Hasan took one wicket each for 23, 28 and 31 runs respectively.
