This week, the new releases to hit the screens are Kundan Shah’s P Se PM Tak, Ishqedariyaan and Welcome To Karachi. And all three have performed poorly and are not likely to make any box-office impact.
On the other hand, Tanu Weds Manu Returns which did fantastic business on the last weekend, opened with a bang on Monday too, collecting Rs 8.90 crore, which was almost at par with its first Friday collections. The film was rock steady on Tuesday, raking in Rs 8.20 crore. This trend held up on Wednesday and Thursday as well and the film made Rs 7.70 crore and Rs. 7.30 crore respectively.
So far, the Aanand L Rai film has earned Rs. 70.25 crore at the domestic box-office, which easily makes it one of the biggest opening weeks this year. The film is highly likely to hit the 100-crore mark over the coming week owing to the lack of competition in screens and excellent word of mouth. Internationally too, the film has earned Rs 25 crore within the first week which brings its overall collections for the first week to Rs 95.25 crore.
Closing its second week, Bombay Velvet, which faced a disastrous drop on the second Friday, collected a total of Rs 65 lakhs over the course of the weekdays. The film has collected Rs 24.32 crore domestically.
