An auto-rickshaw driver, who was injured seriously earlier by its passenger’s attack on Saturday, allegedly died on Sunday morning while under treatment at Gowainghat upazila health complex under Sylhet district.
The deceased was identified as Kutub Uddin, 27, son of Arfan Ali of Sati village of the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said Habi Mia, son of Babul Mia of the area and his friends rented the auto from Bangabir on Saturday evening to go Borkachi Bazar. But reaching at the destination, they locked into an argument with the driver with rent. At one stage they started to beat Kutub, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, witnesses recovered him and admitted to upazila health complex but he died on Sunday at 8:00am under treatment.
Officer-in-Charge of Gowainghat Police Station Abdul Hai said, the dead body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
