Noted poet and litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq recited modern poetry at Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct in the city recently on the occasion of Second Sight, an exhibition of selected works by SM Sultan.
Bengal Foundation hosted an evening of poetry and music. Syed Shamsul Haq was accompanied by a musician playing the esraj. This cultural event was a part of the extended programming of the exhibition.
This is Syed Haq’s fourth solo poetry recital with Bengal Foundation. He has been reciting poetry since 1960’s but he started performing in public nine to 10 years ago. Syed Shamsul Haq dedicated the recital to SM Sultan and his works. He recited poem of rural life, political uncertainty and of love. Syed Haq never recited these poems earlier at any public recital. Syed Shamsul Haq writes poetry, fiction, plays – mostly in verse and essays. His literary works were included in the curriculum of school level, secondary, higher secondary and graduation level Bengali literature in Bangladesh. Syed Shamsul Haq received the prestigious ‘Bangla Academy Award’ at the age of 29. The exhibition is on view until July 13. n
