Public Administration Minister and Awami League Presidium Member Syed Ashraful Islam is undergoing treatment in a Bangkok hospital with serious ailment.
“Syed Ashraf, also a Member of Parliament, has been suffering from fourth stage of cancer. He even can’t recognise anyone,” said his younger brother

General Shafeyetul Islam said this while addressing a discussion organized on the occasion of the ‘Jail killing Day’ at Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital conference room at Josodal in the town on Sunday.
He called upon the people to offer prayers seeking early recovery of his brother, now undergoing treatment at the ‘critical care medicine unit’ of Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok.
General Shafeyetul Islam, a former Military Secretary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also criticized a group of people who are engaged in making untrue remarks over the illness. He said the vested quarter is spreading lies, adding that Syed Ashraful Islam would return to politics soon.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is well aware about Ashraful’s illness and maintaining close contact to know his health condition.
On September 17, the parliament approved 90 days leave for ailing Syed Ashraful Islam.
Chief Whip ASM Feroz, on behalf of Syed Ashraf, placed an application before Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury to grant the leave.
The speaker moved it to the parliament and read out the application and the house granted the leave by voice vote.
