Professor Dr Hossain Al Mamun has been appointed as the new head of the Department of English of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. He took charge as the 9th head of the department.
He took over as head of the department at 11 a.m on Friday (October 15). He said he would be the head of the department for the next three years.
At this time, the former head of the department Professor Dr Himadri Shekhar Roy handed over the responsibility to him. Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers of the department were present at this time.
Professor Dr Hossain Al Mamun said, I want to take the English department forward in all aspects including academic, research and cultural as well as work for the teachers and students of the department. He also sought the cooperation of the university authorities and all the teachers of the department to take the progress of the department further.
It could be mentioned that Professor Dr Hussain Al Mamun joined the department on 23 September 2004 as a lecturer. He was promoted as a professor in 2017. He has previously held various positions including elected member of the University’s Academic Council, Executive Member of the SUST Teachers’ Association, Assistant Proctor and Co-ordinator of the English Council.
The number of completed and ongoing research under him is 7. He has written more than 25 books and published research articles in the country and abroad. He also received various awards and honors in recognition of his academic work.
