SUST cafeteria shut for long

The central cafeteria of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been closed for six months causing serious suffering to students and teachers.
The cafeteria was closed in last week of June due huge losses. Campus sources said, the cafeteria was set up in the middle of 2008, separated in two parts: right part for teachers and left for students, beside the academic building ‘E’. Around 1,000 teachers and students took their breakfast and meals form it every day.
Anwar Hossain, leaseholder of cafeteria, complained that he was totally unable to run the cafeteria, as around Tk. 70,000 was due from leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
He also urged students to submit written complaints to Registrar’s office several times to take steps against the debtors and to remove the tong shops from beside the cafeteria, but authority didn’t respond. So he had to shut down the cafeteria.
Students complained that there is only one cafeteria for 4,000 teachers and 10,000 students but it has remained closed for several months. In this connection, university’s Resister Ishfaqual Hussain said, one investigation committee, headed by President of SUST Teachers Association Prof Syed Shamsul Alam, was formed to find the reasons of closure of the cafeteria. Authority would take steps after getting report from the committee, he added.
