Staff Reporter :River erosion has been threatening the billon-taka Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project halting its construction work, officials said on Tuesday.They said that the sudden erosion of river Padma took place on Tuesday noon at Kumarbhog area under Louhajang upazila in Munshiganj district, disrupting the construction work of the bridge project.”About 150 meter areas of the bridge project have been devoured away into the bed of the river Padma. A large number of piling materials have been flooded away due to the sudden erosion of the river,” Dewan Abdul Quader, Executive Engineer (Main Bridge) of Padma Bridge Project told the reporters after the incident.He said that they could not measure the losses instantly but it hampered the piling work of the project seriously.According to him, the erosion took place between 3pm to 5pm on the day.
