Hundreds of students of Al Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Muinul Islam, better known as Hathazari Madrasa, in Chattogram, demonstrated demanding the expulsion of Anas Madani, son of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, Director General of Hathazari Madrasa and Amir of Hifazat-e-Islam.
After the Zuhr prayers on Wednesday, the students gathered on the Madrasa premises (Maidan), chanting various slogans including Anas Madani’s expulsion.
The protesters voiced against the domination of madrasa, harassment of ordinary students and attempts to seize madrasha as private property.
The students have complained that Allama Shafi is currently suffering from various diseases due to old age. As a result, his son Anas Madani is dismissing teachers and staff from Hathazari Madrasa without following any rules and regulations.
Abu Naeem, one of the protesters, said hundreds of students had taken position on the premises to demand the expulsion of Allama Shafi’s son Anas Madani.
This movement will be continued to protect the madrasa from disorder and save the ordinary students from harrasment.
According to sources, Allama Shafi’s Press Secretary Maulana Munir Ahmed has been relieved from all of responsibilities of the Madrasa without any notice recently.
Since then, the influence of Shafi’s son Anas Madani and the issues of administrative irregularities of the madrasa have come under discussion.
However, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Hathazari Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) could not be reached for comment.
It is mentionable that Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi, Ameer of Bangladesh Hifazat-e-Islam and also Director General of Hathazari Madrasa, who was again hospitalised after falling ill with old-age complications, has been discharged from the hospital after recovery.
