Police deployed amid tension: Students form human chain as BNP- AL join hands to grab school land

Amid tension, about two thousand students of different educational institutions of Sonarai union in Sadar upazila formed a human chain on Saturday on Uttara EPZ road protesting grabbing of land of local Joichandi Govt Primary School by union unit president of opposition BNP in collaboration with same union unit president of ruling Awami League (AL) as they’re siblings.
During agitation, a contingent of police was deployed in the area as the grabbers posing threat to the school teachers and also students of dare consequence if participated in yesterday’s agitation.
Earlier on Thursday, grabber Nurul Islam Shah (47) in collaboration with aids manhandled two female teachers Saheda Begum (28) and Salma Sultana (25) on road in broad day light.
Regarding the matters, president of the school management committee Shankar Kumar filed a written complain to police today seeking safety and also legal action against the accused.
School’s head master Kazi Ziaul Islam said, ” Grabber Nurul Islam Shah grabbed 30 decimal school field encircling with corrugated iron sheet on 29 May when it was Ramadan vacation.”
” I instantly brought the matter to notice of Sador UNO who directed upazila assit commissioner (AC) of land to see it and the AC after investigation directed the grabber on 7 June to vacate the land by seven days next which was ignored, “the head master further told.
Principal of Sonarai-Sangolshi degree college also school’s ex student Abdul Mazid who joined in today’s agitation said, ” The primary school was set up in 1930 as generous late Provananda Adhikari donated 60 decimal land where academic activity is running unhindered for last 88 years and the grabbing by political influential is a heinous act as few AL men support it.”
However, president of Sonarai unit of ruling AL Abdul Mannan Shah who is also elder brother of grabber Nurul Islam supported the grabbing saying that his brother bought the land from the real owners belonging to hindu community and the school authority illegally kept the land in its possession for decades and he (brother) just honoured the rights of minority community.
 Joint secretary of Sonarai Union Awami League Ahsan Habib Babu said, “Most ruling party activists are against the grabbing though few collaborating the grabber BNP leader at directive of party’s unit president Abdul Mannan Shah and we’ll replace him with new one in next party council.
Alleged grabber Nurul Islam while contacted denied allegations and said, “I’ve not grabbed school land but bought from real owners and I’ll go to court to prove my genuinity.”
Officer in charge of Sadar police station Babul Akhtar said, “I received school authority’s complain and deploy police to combat untoward incident if any. We’ll take action as per law after primary investigation.”
