The Jagannath University (JnU) students again boycotted their classes and examinations yesterday as part of their continuous demonstrations protesting the dismissal of an English Department associate Professor Nasir Uddin Ahmed on charge of plagiarism.
On Thrusday morning students locked the main gate of the varsity along with others faculty gates. They sat in front of the main gate with banners and placards and held a protest rally demanding withdrawal of the teacher’s removal.
They boycotted semester examination of Science and Arts faculties and
other departments. Students marched towards Rafiq Bhaban to stop semester examination of Bangla department where only some students gathered.
Protesters blamed the varsity authorities for forcing students to sit for the examination. JnU unit of BCL, the ruling party affiliated students body also joined the protest to make sure that no examination can be held. The authorities did it accordingly.
Students said removal of the teacher is a conspiracy, which is illogical and motivated. They requested the varsity authorities to immediately convene the syndicate meeting to restore him in his post.
Proctor Prof Nur Mohamamd asked the protester to remain peaceful but some students alleged that he has also threatened them not to continue the strike.
