Stocks return to falling trend again

After gaining marginally on Thursday last, stocks returned to downward trend again as the major indices on the country’s two bourse- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)-witnessed a fall due mainly to selling pressures.
However, turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, rose to Tk 592.76 crore from last Thursday’s Tk 547.08 crore on the DSE. The daily trade volume also increased to 15.49crore shares from the Thursday’s 13.91 crore shares.
DSEX, the key index of the DSE, lost 74.57 points to settle at 5,739.23 over the previous session. The blue-chip DS 30 also followed the same trend with 28.27 points down at 2434.55 and the Shariah DSES closed the day with 18.70 points down at 1324.95.
At the DSE, out of the day’s 337 securities, prices of 73 securities closed higher against 227 losing issues while 37 remained unchanged.
The top five gainers at DSE were Queen South Textile, Navana CNG, Miracle Industries, Western Marine Shipyard and Central Insurance while the top five losers were Bank Asia, Sonargaon Textile, Tosrifa Industries, Premier Leasing and Aramit Cement.
