Tagore’s birth anniv observed

The 153rd birth anniversary of Nobel laureate and great poet Rabindranath Tagore was observed across the country in a befitting manner on Thursday.
Tagore was born in a distinguished family of Jorashanko in Kolkata, West Bengal in 1861. Rabindranath Tagore was 14th among the children of Debendranath Tagore.
The government and various organisations in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country organised different programmes to observe the birth anniversary of the great poet.
This year’s theme of the birth anniversary was ‘Rabindranath and Bangladesh’.
The main programme was held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium where Finance Minister AMA Muhith was present
as the chief guest. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy organised a cultural programme on its premises in the evening on the occasion.
The birth anniversary programme was also celebrated at the places endowed with Tagore’s memory-Sheliadah of Kushtia, Shahzadpur in Sirajganj, Patisar in Naogaon and Dakshindihi in Khulna-under the management of the local administration.
Meanwhile, a three-day programme began at Sheliadah Kuthibari in Kushtia on Wednesday. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. Besides, a discussion will be held on Friday at Bangla Academy.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion.
