BSS, Dhaka :
After slight recovery at the week’s opening, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) showed mixed trend in trading during the entire session on Monday, resulting in little fall in major index and marginal gain in two selective market indicators.
Major DSEX index finished the day only 1.11 points or 0.02 percent lower at 4447.45 when the blue-chip DS30 advanced by 12.38 points or 0.37 percent to 1638.46 and the Shariah DSES by 3.76 points or 0.37 percent to 1007.01.
The daily trade volume also decreased slightly to 7.04 crore shares, but the value increased close to Taka 432.49 crore from Sunday’s 7.43 crore shares worth Taka 376.06.
The mixed trend in trading caused price fall across the board when 190 issues suffered fall, 80 gained moderately and 27 remained unchanged.
Like on Sunday, large cap issues from telecom, cement, petroleum, pharmaceuticals and engineering were among the market leaders in trade when banking and life insurance entered there with comparatively voluminous trading.
Chemical, textile and pharmaceuticals were the major advancing sector with Wata Chemical gained most with a record 716 percent rise. The issue closed at Taka 716 from Sunday’s close of Taka only 59.8.
The rocketing rice was allowed following its corporate disclosure. DSE authorities transferred the share trading of this company from OTC (over the counter) to “A” category after it declared dividend. The category change prompted investors to book the shares, which plunged on the OTC market.
On the lagging side, mutual fund suffered most besides engineering and leasing.
