Stocks extend loss to open week

Stock market extended loss to open week on Sunday when majority of issues traded closed in red amid lower participation.
All the indices at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended in negative territory, with DSEX losing 19.71 points to 4534.55, DS30 7.20 points to 1740 and DSES 4.08 points to 1103.26. The indices could sustained on the green zone as 164 securities incurred loss against 102 gaining and 55 static issues among the day’s 321 traded securities.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended Sunday lower, with its major CASPI index losing 78.49 points to finish at 13920.18. The stock exchange also saw 140 issues losing against 71 marginally advancing securities when 72.26 lakh shares changed hands for Taka 23.65 crore.
“The weakness in DSE came following the continuous correction in market last week”, said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited, adding that the negative sentiment might have also garnered by senior bankers’ fear of further rise in volume of non-performing loans in the country’s banking sector.
Amid this apprehension, investors were mostly on the sideline that resulted in sluggish demand on the market. The daily transaction in volume, however, inched up due to sector focused buying centering power, engineering, pharmaceutical and banking shares.
