Election Commission (EC) is working for convenient environment so that the women voters can cast their votes freely in the upcoming 11th national election, said Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam in a program organized by the UNDP.
She inaugurated a 2-day workshop on ‘Gender and Election’ in a Restaurant of Rajshahi City on Tuesday.
Kabita Khanam said, “Half of the voters are females. Though the number of women has increased in the workplaces and politics, it has not yet reached a considerable stage. Democracy cannot be strengthened without integrated efforts, keeping women aside.
The opportunity of electing women as representatives of people should be expanded. The EC is working in this regard,” she said.
The 11th Jatiya Sangsad election is slated for December 30.
Some of the Officers of the Election Commission Secretariat namely Sahidul Nabi, Saiful Islam Chowdhury and Senior District Election Officer Faridul Islam were also present at the workshop.
It was chaired by the Regional Election Officer Syed Amirul Islam.
