‘Steps taken to stop PSC exam’

Primary and Mass Education Minister Advocate Mostafizur Rahman said that they have decided of stopping the primary terminal examination better known as PSC in principle but it would be sent to cabinet to finalise the decision.
“We are thinking about a terminal examination. But my ministry has no authority to take the decision . . .cabinet would take the final decision . . all concerned have taken decision to make it effective ,” he said this on Tuesday while speaking at a seminar on ‘primary education up to Class VIII and reality’ at Dhaka University Senate Bhaban.
He said primary education would be upgraded to Class VIII and its circumference would be extended.
“Initiatives have been taken to make the primary education up to Class VIII method at short, medium and long terms,” Mostafizur said.
Chaired by Directorate of Primary Education Director General (DG) Mohammad Alamgir, the seminar was joined by Primary and Mass Education Secretary Humayun Khalid, National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Professor Narayan Chandra Saha, former DG of DPE Nazrul Islam Khan, DPE additional DG Dr Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Educationists Prof Khandkar Bazlul Haque, Prof Mohammad Kaykobad, Prof Akhtaruzzaman and Prof M Tamim, Dhaka Education Board Chairman Professor Mahbubur Rahman, among others.
Nazrul Islam Khan called for setting up in-house resource centers as teachers can present themselves more efficiently before students.
