Steps taken to save silk industry: Mirza Azam

State Minister for Textile and Jute Mirza Azam MP on Wednesday said government has stepped up efforts to save the silk industry of Bangladesh though BNP government had destroyed it during their tenure.
He added that with a view to saving the silk industry of the country the government has taken different initiatives to control import of silk from abroad. The state minister said this while visiting the sericulture nursery at Bholahat under Capainawabganj district. The silk of Bholahat has a tradition and the farmers should be inspired to produce silk, he further added.
The state minister said the government has already taken up multi-dimensional steps for the growth and development of the traditional silk industry.
He also visited the loom and silk factories at Ranihati under Shibganj upazila and Laharpur in Sadar upazila and inaugurated the Chapainawabganj Textile Vocational Institute at Taherpur under Baliadanga union of Sadar upazila.
During his visit, local law maker of Golam Mostofa Biswas, director general of Bangladesh Silk Board Swapon Chandra Pal, deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangir Kabir and police super Bashir Ahmed were present on the occasion.
