Steps taken to make polythene free city markets

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) has taken initiative to make three kitchen markets of the port city free from polythene from the first day of December, the month of victory. Initially, Chawkbazar, Kazir Dewri and Karnafuli kitchen market of Agrabad Chaumuhani are being made polythene free. All the raw materials of the city will be made polythene free in the next 6 months, said the concerned.
According to the concerned, a group of plans have been taken by the Standing Committee on Environmental Development of CCC to make the city polythene free. To this end, in the first phase, awareness campaign, miking and free cloth bags will be given. In the second phase, the law will be enforced through Chasik’s security guards, access monitoring and mobile courts.
CCC Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury will inaugurate the initiative to make the city polythene free on Monday. He will be the chief guest at the awareness campaign organized at Chawkbazar at 10 am, Kazir Deuri at 10.30 am and Karnafuli Raw Bazar at 11 am. Councilor Shaibal Das Sumon, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Environmental Development, will take part in it.
