Speedy trial , exemplary punishment of rapists demanded

Youths of Barishal on Sunday observed protest programmes demanded speedy trial, capital and exemplary punishment against violating and killing women and children by reforming concerned acts.
The programme was jointly organised by Alokito Jubo Samaj project of Bandhan Social Development Project (BSDP) and Action aid Bangladesh in assistances with Bangladesh Model Youth Parliament, Youth for Climate Justice, Nari Pakkho, Young Bangla, Girls Not Brides Network, Engage Men and Boys Network, Tarunner Platform.
Participant youths and children forming human chain in front of Aswhini Kumar Hall went to central Shaheed Minar of the city with procession and held agitation rally sitting there.
Hundreds of youths and children participating in these protest programmes carrying banners, festoons and placards called to prevention violations against women and children, showing proper honour and respect to women and assurances for exemplary capital punishment after speedy trial within sixty days by reforming concerned acts.
They also called to ensure safety and security for women and children in educational institutions.
The agitation rally at Shaheed Minar was presided over by Shakila Islam, chief coordinator of Youth Net for Climate Justice and conducted by Sohanur Rahman, chief executive of Bangladesh Model Youth Parliament.
Expressing solidarity with aims and objects of the programme it was addressed among others by S M Ajiar Rahman, deputy commissioner, Robin Shil, magistrate, Jahanara Begum, vice president, district unit of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, Rezaunul Huq, child safety officer of Plan International, Selim Molla, divisional manager of gender justice and diversity of Brac, AZM Masum Islam, associate programme officer of Actionaid , Rafikul Islam, executive director of BSDP.
They said according to our socio-religious and ethical norms and values women and children would most safe and secure in the society, which now violated often.
So they called for sex and reproductive health education in the institutions and creating and practicing ethical values to end gender discriminations and create mutual respects for gender related issues.
