The law enforcing agencies including Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), District Police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have taken special measures to maintain law and order situation particularly curbing the incidents of snatching, looting and extortion in the port city for upcoming holy Eid-ul- Azha. Talking to the journalists after holding meeting with the cattle traders in Chittagong on Tuesday morning, Iqbal Bahar, Commissioner of CMP said 2000 additional policemen will be deployed from this week for ensuring the security of the cattle traders and citizens of Chittagong. He said the law enforcing agencies including police have taken special measures to maintain law and order situation during Eid-ul-Azha in Chittagong. “We have set up check posts and deployed huge number of policemen at the important spots and the gates of the cattle markets. As a result, the market going buyers can be safer than previous years.”
“Besides, a total of 365 jamaat of holy Eid-ul- Azha will be held on the Eid day. So, we will take special security measures for resisting any unwanted incidents including the attack of militants,” he added. Commissioner of CMP also said after the Eid day, the leather traders will sell lathers at 54 places that are marked by Chittagong City Corporation and the CMP.
“So, we have to take special measures to avoid the clashes for leathers at those places. We will deploy 400 more policemen for ensuring the smooth trading of leathers avoiding the unwanted situation. ”
Besides, police are ensuring the security of cattle traders at the cattle markets in the port city as well as the rural areas of Chittagong. RAB teams are also patrolling the cattle markets and adjoining areas in the city and rural areas of Chittagong now, he told the newsmen.
