The Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) will investigate the authenticity of the claim that the retail prices of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) increased because of rising spending for raw materials, shipping, dollar, transportation and fuel.
The directorate will form a four-member committee with representatives from Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh, DNCRP and FMCG manufacturing companies.
The committee will begin work from next week, AHM Shafiquzzaman, director general of DNCRP.
The directorate took the initiative as some consumers have complained that some companies have hiked FMCG prices uncontrollably.
The DNCRP shared the information of forming a special committee at a meeting with the representatives of the FMCG companies at the directorate’s office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
In the meeting, the directorate asked the representatives to explain why and how much they have increased the prices of the FMCGs.
