SM Sultan’s death anniv observed in Narail

The 10th death anniversary of internationally famous artist SM Sultan was observed on October 10. On this occasion, Narail district administration and SM Sultan Foundation ,District Shilpakala Academy took up a programme to observe the day.
The programs include Korankhani, children’s painting competition, floral wreath at the artist’s grave and a meeting of the children’s auditorium, including jiarat, Milad Mahfil and prize distribution.
Presided over by Hawlader Mohammad Rokibul Bari ADC, the programme was attended by Ashiqur Rahman Miku, member secretary of Sultan Foundation; Adv. Iqbal Hossain Sikder, ex-member secretary; Asok Kumar Shil, Principal, Bengal Sultan Art College. SM Sultan was conferred with the ‘Ekushey Padak’ and the Cambridge University declared him as the man of Asia in the same year in 1984.
The Bangladesh government accepted him as the resident artist. He was honoured with “Charushilpi Sangshad Sanmanana” in 1986 and “Swadhinata Padak” in 1993.
Sultan died on October 10, 1994, at Jessore Combined Military Hospital after suffering from a prolonged breathing illness.
