Climate Change Trust Fund: Work on two projects completed in Sylhet

Work on two projects under Climate Change Trust Fund (CCTF) has been completed recently while two others would be completed by the year end, official sources informed.
All these, however, were earlier set to be completed by June 30, but the time limit had to be extended for two projects. Water Development Board (WDB) initiated the job worth Tk 174.6 million.
The project of Kushiara river’s left bank protection at a cost of Tk 25 million was completed weeks ago in Beanibazar Upazila in Sylhet where 210 metre long area on Kurarbazar has been protected from severe erosion.
Over 80 per cent works had been completed on the 550-metre long protection of Surma riverbanks at Sheikhpara, Jangalia, Zogirgaon, Fatehpur of Sylhet sadar upazilas and Akilpur and Lamakazi area in Biswanath and Sadar upazilas and Singerkhal river bank in Badaghat area of Sadar Upazila under the other project has been going on. The work began in September, 2013 and its time has been extended till December, 2016 although earlier it was set for completing by June 30 this year. The other project for protection of 220 metre area along Lova river banks at Kandla and Noyabazar areas in Kanaighat Upazila began in September, 2014 and 70 per cent works were done so far. It is expected to be completed in the coming dry season this year. The cost is Tk 19.6 million, the official informed.
Superintending Engineer of WDB, Sylhet region, AKM Nurul Islam Sarker said work on Basia River Excavation Project at Biswanath Upazila was started in September, 2013 and was completed recently at a cost of Tk 80 million.
